One thing that folks didn’t have time to talk about was lessons learned across disciplines. The Red Wolf Recovery effort pioneered ‘cross fostering’ for augmenting wolf populations. The Mexican Grey Wolf effort has really benefitted from that strategy. Rather than Willy-Nilly release of pen raised wolves, strategically cross fostered whelps can help with genetic diversification of the population, and reduce some of the conflicts that releases of adult wolves can generate.

It was great to hear Heff speak on the wide range off conservation issues in the west. He is a superior scientist. Appreciated his connection with State Wildlife Agency, Wildlife and Sportfish Restoration Funding, and the importance of the Infrastructure that that the States and USFWS have fostered to synergize conservation across boundaries, across landscapes, and across all taxa. Good on ya’!
